Many people are aware that they should have some sort of emergency kit at their home. Unfortunately, many people do not think to have one in their car as well. Do you know that when disaster strikes, you are more likely to be driving in your vehicle, at work, or out and about rather than at your home? Especially with today's busy lifestyles, an auto emergency kit is a must. They can be put together by yourself or they can be purchased prepackaged for a very small amount of money. They are usually relatively light and take up a small amount of room compared to the amount of utility they provide in an emergency event.
The great thing about always having a kit of your own is it acts as a disaster kit but is also extremely helpful in minor situations such as getting a flat tire, running out of gas, or getting in some type of car accident. Many times these minor emergencies happen when it is dark or when it is raining outside. So an emergency kit can really cover you in both types of situations. The same tools and flashlights that will help you change a tire in the dark will also help you survive a sudden catastrophe. That same first aid kit can supply you with a quick band-aid when you are away from a store or can help dress and stabilize a major injury in case of a natural disaster. Considering how little these kits can cost, it doesn't make sense to leave home without one.
All the time we see disasters in the news. Disasters such as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and more recently the record Mississippi River flooding. We see that these people are many times stranded for days at a time and are not always lucky enough to be at their homes when disaster strikes. We cannot let ourselves just watch these tragedies and think that could never happen to us. We should take these events as a warning that emergencies can happen unexpectedly and we can use these events to further prepare ourselves.
So learn from recent events and make sure you have an auto emergency kit in your vehicle. Don't let yourself and your family be caught off guard when something goes wrong unexpectedly. Make sure you are prepared!
